History The Cardinal Cup was established as a Girls only preseason tournament in 1998. The tournament offered teams the opportunity to experience competitive preseason games in a fun environment at one convenient location, Clearcreek Soccer Complex, located on the east side of Cincinnati.
Clearcreek Soccer complex is one of the premier soccer complexes in the region and has hosted numerous Ohio South State Cup competitions over the years and was host of the 1999 Region II championships. Clearcreek Soccer Complex offers 21 full-sized, irrigated soccer fields, a fully functioning concession stand, and permanent, clean, restroom facilities.
The Cardinal Cup quickly grew into one of the top Girls only preseason tournaments in the region.
In 2004, the Cardinal Cup was the first and only preseason fall tournament to move to a GUARANTEED 4 GAME format to all teams participating in the tournament. Many tournaments quickly followed their lead.
In an effort to improve on an already great experience for participating clubs, the Cardinal Cup committee has decided to move to the next level.
New in 2007--The Cardinal Cup committee has decided to add a BOYS division to the tournament. This will allow teams that support both a Girls and Boys program in their club an opportunity to bring all their teams to the tournament.
Format of Play The Cardinal Cup will continue to follow the guidelines set forth by the Ohio South Youth Soccer Association (OSYSA) and the Cincinnati United Soccer League (CUSL) and offer the following format for the specific age groups:
U8 through U10 will play 6v6. U11 will play 8v8. U12 through U14 will play 11v11.
This format could change depending on CUSL/OSYSA rules committee changes so please check back often for any changes that may take place over the next several months. (U12 may move to an 8v8 format)
Location of Play/Fields All games will take place at either Clearcreek Soccer Complex or nearby Riverside Park located in the east side Cincinnati, Ohio suburb of Anderson Township. All Championship matches will take place at Clearcreek Soccer Complex.
